WIRED’s quick test shows that DeepL’s results are indeed in no way inferior to those of the high-ranking competitors and, in many cases, even surpass them. The translated texts often read much more fluently; where Google Translate forms completely meaningless word chains, DeepL can at least guess a connection. We like to make ourselves a little bit small and pretend that there is no one in this country who can stand up to the big players. Tech giants Google, Microsoft and Facebook are all applying the lessons of machine learning to translation, but a small company called DeepL has outdone them all and raised the bar for the field. You have to comply with the privacy guidelines set forth by your company as well as the client.

Step 2: Apply for and pass certification program
The system’s original creator, Franz Josef Och, has criticized the effectiveness of rule-based algorithms in favor of statistical approaches. Original versions of Google Translate were based on a method called statistical machine translation, and more specifically, on research by Och who won the DARPA contest for speed machine translation in 2003. Och was the head of Google’s machine translation group until leaving to join Human Longevity, Inc. in July 2014. For example, some apps are designed for travel use, while others are more focused on helping you learn a new language. One of its best features is the ability to take any text you throw at it and accurately determine what language it’s in, and then instantly put it into a language you can understand. This is great if you don’t know the originating language; it beats clicking through every one of them until the translation works. If this is also your aim, it is better if you have some business acumen. You should have some knowledge in marketing and sales so you can build a network, get known and get translation jobs. Tenacity is another skill you need because there will be stiff competition among other freelancers. You should have good computer skills if you want to become a translator.
